May 24, 2007 Comments of State Attorney Steve Meadows on the Florida Supreme Court’s decision in the Christopher Offord case: "I am very disappointed with the Florida Supreme Court today. "Dana Moser was brutally murdered by Christopher Offord. Expert testimony presented at trial showed that Ms. Moser suffered at least 30 blows to the face with a claw hammer and that she was alive for at least 15 to 20 minutes of the beating. A Bay County jury, which heard all of the evidence, voted unanimously for death. "The Court has substituted its judgement for that of the 12 citizens who took on the very difficult task of reviewing the evidence and recommending the appropriate penalty. "The tragedy continues for Dana Moser and her family–especially her young daughter. "Despite this ruling; this office will continue to seek the death penalty in those cases in which it is the only appropriate punishment." |
