State Attorney Steve Meadows announces the conviction, in Bay County Circuit Court, of Daryl Cortez Black, on charges of First Degree Murder and Robbery with a Firearm.

After a week-long trial, the jury of two men and four women deliberated about two hours and 15 minutes before finding Black, 19, guilty in the April 16, 2006, shooting and robbery of Woodrow Cherry. Cherry was found shot to death, in a Cadillac near the intersection of Berthe Avenue and Highway 22.

Eric Anthony Baker was previously convicted of accessory after the fact to second degree murder in this case. Baker testified in Black’s trial. His sentencing is set for December 12, 2006.

Black’s sentencing date is to be announced. He faces a mandatory life sentence for the murder and 25 to life for the robbery.
