State Attorney Steve Meadows announces the sentencing, in Washington
County Circuit Court, of Elwood Staley, on a charge of Failure of a Sex
Offender to Properly Register.
Staley, WM, DOB: 8-24-1954, who previously resided at 3111 Willow Street,
Cottondale, was sentenced to seven years in prison, consecutive to a
15-month sentence that was handed him in April of this year. He must now go
to Jackson County to face charges of Fugitive from Justice, Failing to
Register as a Sex Offender, and Resisting an Officer.
Staley was previously convicted of Sexual Battery and sentenced to nine
years in prison in 1992. Florida law requires sexual offenders to register
their whereabouts with law enforcement. Failure to do so is a felony.
State law requires that Staley must serve at least 85 per cent of his
sentence.
