MAN INVOLVED IN POLICE SHOOTING SENT TO PRISON

State Attorney Steve Meadows announces the sentencing, in Bay County Circuit Court, of Frank Russell Jones to 30 years in prison.

Jones, 18, formerly of West 13th Street in Panama City, was found to be in violation of probation by Circuit Judge Dedee S. Costello and sentenced to the maximum possible sentence. He was given 208 days credit.

Jones had absconded from supervision when he was involved in an officer-involved shooting on October 11,2006. Complaints charged Jones with pointing a gun at undercover officers and firing at least one shot. Charges of Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, three counts, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Carrying a Concealed Firearm, Use of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony, Possession of Cocaine, with intent to sell or deliver, Possession of Cannabis, and Trespass are pending.

Jones was shot in the incident. Officers recovered a 40 caliber handgun at the time of the arrest.

The probation stemmed from charges of Burglary, Carrying a Concealed Firearm, Resisting an Officer with Violence, and Fleeing or Attempting to Elude. Those offenses were committed by Jones when he was 17-years old and originated in juvenile court.
