Comments of State Attorney Steve Meadows on Judge Overstreet’s ruling that
Robert Bailey is competent to stand trial for the murder of Sgt. Kevin Kight:
“This is one of the most important cases of my career and this ruling clears
the way for the trial that the community wants.
“We are very pleased that the Court agreed with our argument and the
evidence we presented that the defendant is not, under the law, mentally
retarded and is not incompetent to stand trial.
“We will spare no effort, no resource, nor any opportunity to insure that
the defendant is given a fair trial at which he is held accountable and in
which justice is served.”
