State Attorney Steve Meadows announces the sentencing, in Bay County Circuit
Court, of Steven Ferris, to 15 years in prison, on a charge of Lewd or
Lascivious Molestation of a Child.
Ferris, 24, was convicted of the charge on September 14, 2006, after a
two-day trial.
At the sentencing hearing, Assistant State Attorney Barbara Adams presented
evidence that Ferris had been released from prison less than three years
before committing this offense. Circuit Court Judge Michael Overstreet found
that Ferris met the criteria to be declared a Prison Releasee Reoffender and
imposed the maximum sentence.
Ferris will have to serve 100 per cent of his sentence.
“We will continue to identify the most serious offenders and those who
cannot abide by the laws of our society,” said Meadows. “Miss Adams did a
fine job at trial and in providing the judge with the information he needed
to hand down such a sentence.”
